The quick way to design a business card
->
Let me start by saying that the act of exchanging business cards at the beginning of a meeting has always struck me as more than a little pretentious. That aside, I do appreciate a good business card design when I see one. The key to a good business card begins with the logo design. In my experience, a dud logo equals a dud business card. I mean, you can only work with what you've got.
Creating logos from scratch is a tricky business, but companies like www.logoyes.com give the graphically challenged the chance to create something for themselves. In that respect, the concept is good. In terms of ease of use, their logo/business card creator is simple to use. It follows a logical process, starting with selecting the feeling you are trying to achieve (eg. technical, creative etc), and taking things from there.
One thing I'd be concerned about is attempting to uniquely brand my business with an off the shelf logo. There's no exclusivity, and no guarantee that someone else will pump out an identical, or at least, very similar, design.
The other thing is, the end result is really dependent upon your own creativity, but even then you are quite limited in what you can do.
As you can see from the screenshot, it uses a six stage process which involves the user making selections from stock logos.

Granted, it took me no time at all to get to that point, but at the same time, it's probably not at the forefront of design either. Yes, the process was very quick, but by the same token, I'd suggest that my end result may reflect that as well.
If anyone has mocked up something that would put my little gem in the shade, I'd be glad to see it. All in all www.logoyes.com may be useful for the creatively (or time) challenged, but I'm sure design purists would argue it's no subsitute for the real thing.
