Sitting out the HDTV revolution

I guess I am what some people refer to as a 'late bloomer'. I'm yet to join the HDTV revolution. It's not that I don't want to, it's just that I can't actually afford a $2,000AUD plus LCD HDTV. Sadly I'm consigned to living with CRT syndrome, also known as owning one of those old fashioned TV's, for the foreseeable future at least. With the whole global financial crisis and all that, word on the street is that HDTV prices are going to rise, in Australia at least. What are the odds of a government subsidy? Maybe I should write a letter to the Prime Minister?
