Poor health linked to poor literacy

I recently stumbled across a story on the Literacy Trust site that summarized the results of research done into the link between health and literacy.

Professor John Bynner and Samantha Parsons conducted longitudinal research on people born in 1958 to determine whether there was a link between low basic skills (literacy) and poor health. Their findings for both males and females were similar. Respondents with low basic skills were five times more likely to be depressed, on average consumed less fruit and vegetables and under took less exercise. They also found that women were more likely to continue smoking if pregnant.

The findings themselves are quite interesting and lead me to wonder if there is any link between the increase in childhood obesity and literacy levels in this country?

If there is a link between the two, there may also be a link with high risk life insurance.
