Is life insurance worthwhile for a singleton?

I've always wondered what good life insurance is to a singleton. What benefit is there for the single man? I can see the benefit of something like mortgage life insurance, because you wouldn't want to leave your family with a massive debt hanging over them, but general life insurance? I'm just not convinced. Are there pro's I'm missing? What do you think.
